The 2015 Blazing Reel Film Awards

Wow. This really has been a fantastic year for film. Maybe not quite as incredible as last year but it comes very close for me, nonetheless. But in all honestly, I love this year. The Academy’s choice was yet again too safe, going with Spotlight, a film that I thought felt ore like a made for television movie rather than an actual film. For me though, this year was about two films; Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s poetic and brutal The Revenant, which was a really amazing follow-up to something as incredible as Birdman and Mad Max: Fury Road, which was George Miller basically resurrecting his long dormant franchise and telling Hollywood, this is how you direct a fucking action movie. I truly believe that Fury Road’ s superb regard for cinematic rules and incredibly fluent editing will be studied years from now.

It was really hard to pick the winner, but it’s definitely a decision I’m satisfied with. Without further ado, the 2015 Blazing Reel Film Awards!

  1. Awesome! Love pretty much every one of these that I’ve seen. I have a lot of films let to see from this year, but I’m getting there. Loving all the Revenant love.

  2. Some great nominees you got there. Although I would have replaced Macbeth with Carol in your cinematography category. I found the look of that film to be very good. Glad to see Emily Blunt get an acting award for Sicario. She and others were amazing.
